In its ongoing effort to provide easy-to-understand and visually-appealing summaries of occupational content, the O*NET Center developed a process for creating data visualization word clouds for data-level occupations in the O*NET-SOC 2019 taxonomy.
This paper describes the development and implementation of customized “career word clouds” within the career overview reports of the My Next Move and My Next Move for Veterans websites. Leveraging a combination of automation and analyst insight, the process was successfully applied to create nearly 500 unique word clouds. Along with adding visual interest to the career reports, the clouds provide customers with a quick overview or snapshot of key attributes for each career.
Next steps and future directions are also discussed.
